“Love yourself and others” was the meditation workshop that I had the pleasure of attending recently at a nearby Buddhist centre. What was my takeaway? In order to actually love yourself is an actual process and one we need to practice in order to train the brain. It’s more than just a couple of sit-ups or jumping jacks…you really need to apply yourself and verbalize the word “stop” when insecure or negative thoughts start to creep into your psyche. It’s as easy as that…stop! But it’s better if you think it instead of declaring it out loud as I quickly found out while traversing the aisles of the local shop and shouting out “stop” every few minutes. For some reason the other shoppers kept slinking away with a look of “total nutter” written all of their faces. Two key things from this little lesson:
1) inside voice always!!!
2) always wear matching clothes and run a quick comb of the hair (at the very least) when nipping out to the shops for those “much-needed” crisps and cakes so that you don’t feel the need to get down on yourself for looking like the forest troll all decked out in your trackies and zippie (which for some reason don’t match – WTB!). That way you won’t have to broadcast “stop” in earshot of persons unknown just looking for a reason to cuss you out.
In all seriousness, it was a brilliant workshop, very peaceful. If you don’t already I highly recommend meditation even if it’s just 5 minutes a day, it really is a life changer. There a plethora of apps/mp4s/podcasts that you can use in order to get the full benefits of guided meditation so go get your zen on! One more thing, there’s no shortage of handsome men at these workshops…just saying…
On a side note…How to be Single is my recommended film for this week. A splendiferous performance by Rebel Wilson (@rebelwilson), she’s definitely got WTB all up in her grill. Should I take it as a compliment that one of my mates said that I reminded her of Robin (Rebel’s character)?!!
